Terms and Policies

Letterpress is an ancient craft and is very different when compared to inkjet or digital printing. There are inherent challenges and characteristics of this craft/art form. Each color is hand mixed and applied to the machine, which gives room to some color variation, although we do strive for consistency. We hope you understand and appreciate this quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have my order printed in less than a week?    - Letterpress printing is very different from digital printing and there are many more steps involved in the process. Because of the time it takes to make the plates, register colors, mix inks, and cut down paper, we cannot have your order ready in less than 2 weeks. Our typical turnaround time is 4 - 5 weeks from payment to completion. If you are willing to a pay a rush fee we can print your order in 2 - 3 weeks.

Do you do any printing other than letterpress? - Nope, we are an all letterpress shop. We do work with select print shops in town to provide us with the services we can't perform in-house.

Can you print with foiling? - Currently we only offer metallic inks in our shop, which do have some sheen to them. The process of foiling requires a special machine that presses sheets of color into paper. If you are looking for something with a high sheen content then you are probably needing gold foiling. If you want a light color printed on dark paper, foiling is the best option as well. (see next question)

Can you print white ink on dark paper? - Even under normal circumstances, the nature of letterpress ink makes printing a solid field of color difficult. It's especially difficult to print light colored inks on darker paper stock.
Because letterpress inks are so transparent, the color of the paper will show through the ink. White ink on black paper looks like a medium grey. Toovercome this shortcoming and to produce white in a darker field of color, we often print the darker field as a bleed onto white paper, so that the white paper shows through as a negative space.

Can you print full bleeds? - Yes.

Do you offer edge painting? - Yes.

Can you edge-paint a custom shape? - No. To make a custom shape, we need to die cut. When die-cutting, a blade is used to cut out the whole shape at once -- much like a cookie cutter. As it cuts the paper, the blade bevels the edges of the paper, making them incompatible with edge-painting.

Can I purchase the rights to use and print your card designs? - No, but we do offer digital downloads for personal use.

Shipping

We value packaging that is free of plastics and waste. To keep our products protected we use biodegradable plastics and recycled content packaging.

When checking out, please make sure your address on file is up-to-date, as that is what we rely on to ship your order. We are not responsible for shipments made to previous addresses!

For orders placed from our shop:
Expect 3 to 7 business days from point of purchase with U.S orders. A confirmation message will be sent notifying you that your order has been shipped and is on its way.

For custom orders:
Our usual printing time frame is 4 - 6 weeks from point of payment to completion. Expect an additional 2 - 7 business days to ship to most domestic locations and up to 2 weeks for international shipping.

If I order again in the future, will I get a discount?
- Yes. We keep your plates on file with examples of your pieces. To reprint in the future will be a cinch — and much quicker. You’ll even get a discount because the plates have already been made.

Do you offer letterpress proofs? - Yes, we do offer proofs to ensure we get it right. If you would like to see a letterpress printed proof, you would normally receive them two weeks after purchase or after completion of design (for custom orders.)
Some people want to see their pieces before the final printing to make sure all of the colors are exact.
Getting one more chance to proof read is also important!
Others choose to forgo the proof stage in order to expedite the whole process. It's up to you!
Proofs are $50 per color.

Can I see a letterpress proof before I pay? - No. Due to the cost of materials and the amount of time and labor necessary to letterpress, we require payment before we can begin.

Do I need to see a proof? - No, but forgoing the proof stage leaves the final decision regarding aesthetics (color, impression depth, cropping if no crop marks are included) up to our professional experience. We feel confident that we have a good eye for such things, but this does not guarantee that our tastes are the same as yours. We cannot accept returns/refunds/reprint requests based upon one of these factors after the job is finished.

Can I have a full refund if I am dissatisfied with my proofs? - Once proofs have been printed, no. To produce these letterpress printed proofs, we invest a significant amount of time and money in materials and wages for our employees (The majority of work is done in this prep work. The final printing takes only a day or two.)
Once that money has been paid out, however, it can not be reimbursed.
Things we can do:
1) Provide another round of proofs on a alternative stock paper. (We have some in stock.)
2) Provide another round of proofs with a different color. (We can match specific Pantone colors.)
3) Provide another round of proofs using a new design. (There may be fees for the making of new printing plates.)

Refunds and Exchanges

Keep in mind that letterpress printing is a hands-on process and there will be inherent variances -- each color is hand mixed and applied onto the machine. The item you receive may have some color differences from piece to piece. Although we do strive for consistency, we hope you understand and appreciate this quality.

We want you to be happy with your purchase. Please let us know if you have any concerns, and we will do our very best to resolve it.
